Mind Over Matter-Ways to Work Your Brain

Staying indoors right now means staying safe. While we have all been advised to get outside for some fresh air and exercise, we may be forgetting to work on an essential part of our body—our brain! It may be tempting to catch up on (or restart) our favorite tv shows, but there is more we can be doing to benefit our mind. By exercising our most important organ, we can stay productive and alert, and keep our minds off of the current affairs of the world. Let’s talk about why it’s important to work your brain, and how to do it!

Why Brain Health is Important

When thinking of our health, a lot of times we focus on what we can physically see. But, it’s important to remember that mental health is just as important as physical health! Think about it this way. Your body is the car and your brain is the driver. Regardless of what shape your car is in, it won’t do you any good if your driver can’t steer!

Poor brain health affects us in many ways. Not only can it cause long-term problems such as dementia, it also makes our day-to-day harder. When our brains aren’t performing like they should, we may have emotional problems, memory issues, a hard time making decisions, and an overall feeling of boredom and dissatisfaction.

The good news is that there are things that can be done to improve the health of our brain! This can look like a variety of activities and differ depending on the individual. The keys to good brain health are variety, challenge, and persistence. Just like a workout routine, good brain health is going to take some effort.

Exercising the Brain

What exactly does exercising our brains look like? It’s not a muscle that we can strengthen by lifting something heavy or running long distances. Instead, exercising our brain means engaging with and stimulating it. We may think that our work is done once we’re out of school, but if we fail to continue to learn and develop, we are greatly missing out on our brain’s full potential.

It’s important to exercise your brain often. That doesn’t mean we should be doing hours of calculus a day. But, we should be making the effort to at least solve a small puzzle each day, or even working on a new skill or hobby. Remember, persistence is one of the keys to good brain health. Even though trying something new can be boring and frustrating at times, it doesn’t mean we should give half the effort. Just have fun! Challenge yourself to try something new. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy it.

Having the ability to focus is important when exercising your brain. There are a variety of things that might help with that! Put on some relaxing music, remove all distractions, and use Nature’s Ultra Cool Mint CBD Oil. It has a cooling sensation and aroma that will jolt your senses awake and help ground you. It’s a perfect tool to use when working your brain!

Learning

The first great way to work out your brain is by learning something new. We may think that everything we need to know, we learned in school. But there’s so much education to be had beyond that! What is something you’ve always wanted to learn? Regardless of how old you are, there’s always something more to discover.

Have you always wanted to take a trip to Paris? Now is a perfect time to learn basic French before you go. Languages are a fun and exciting way of working out your brain while also connecting to the world around you. You don’t have to go into it expecting to be fluent. Just learning new vocabulary words is a great goal!

Your learning doesn’t just have to be academically based, either. Learning new hobbies is great, too! Pick up a new instrument, try a new sport, or learn a new skill with your hands. Regardless of what it is, if it’s something new, it will be a great workout for your brain. And you might have some fun along the way!

Training

Training is another great way to give your brain a workout. When it comes to things we already know or have been doing for years, we may grow stagnant in our development. The beautiful thing about everything there is to know, is that it’s constantly evolving. So, maybe it’s time to brush up on your best subjects. If you’re a piano pro, is there a new song you can learn? What about in your workplace? Are there any new skills that could come in handy? Ask around and see what you could find. With all of the knowledge between your superiors and the interns, you might be surprised at what you might learn.

Another great way to train and refresh your skills is by teaching them to others. By going back through the basics, it forces your brain to really focus on the fundamentals and become cognitively aware of something that might now be muscle memory. It might surprise you with how difficult going back to the basics can be!

Memory

As we get older, we tend to have a harder time remembering things. The good news is that our memory can improve. Try some exercises to strengthen your ability to remember. This can be done in lots of different ways. For example, try memorizing a list of items in your bathroom. Then, write as many as you can remember an hour later. Doing this multiple times a week will help your brain become better at recognizing patterns and remembering details.

Another fun way to improve your memory is by trying a new, complicated recipe. Follow the directions, but try to do it off the top of your head when possible. Then, when you’re eating it, try to recall all of the individual ingredients and spices and recognize them as you’re tasting them. Not only will it help you improve your memory, it will also allow you to enjoy and savor the meal you worked so hard to prepare.

Resting

The most important thing to remember when working your brain, is to allow periods of rest. Just like an athlete uses an ice bath to relax their muscles, it’s important to have some techniques to relax your brain. This is a great time to turn on your favorite TV show or grab your favorite book, use our Calm CBD Roll-On, and get a snack. It will allow your brain to move into autopilot for a minute, while the Roll-On winds you down with a relaxing aroma and CBD. benefits

Work your brain, but don’t overwhelm yourself. That can cause more problems and frustration! Instead, approach it with a mindset of wanting to have fun and improve your brain health. You will be better off in the long run.
